Hejje / Hevy alternative

A private alternative to Hevy

The same job, done from an encrypted database on your phone instead of an account in somebody's cloud. 750 exercises, sets, reps, estimated 1RM and reusable routines, with the running and the food in the same app.

Free · iOS 17 or later · Android 8.0 or later

Hevy is a good app. Start with why you would leave

It is worth saying plainly, because a comparison page that pretends the incumbent is bad is not worth reading. Hevy is a well-made lifting logger with a large community and a mature product around it. Most people who use it are well served.

The reasons to look elsewhere are narrow and specific. Your training history lives in an account on somebody's servers in a form they can read. There is a subscription for parts of it. And if you also run, your cardio lives in a different app entirely.

There is no importer

Hejje cannot bring a Hevy history across today. There is no workout importer in the shipping app. If years of logged sets are the thing you cannot leave behind, that is a real reason to stay where you are rather than a detail to work around.

What the gym side of Hejje actually does

And then the part a lifting app normally sends you elsewhere for: walks, runs, hikes and rides with GPS, more than 13,000 built-in foods with calorie and protein targets, water against a daily goal, and weight against a trend line. One streak and one calendar across all of it, rather than three apps with three partial answers. That combination has its own page.

The difference in one table

  Hejje A cloud gym logger
Who can read your log Only you. It syncs encrypted and the server has no key. The operator, in a form it can query.
Sign-up A first name. No email, password or phone number. Email and password, or a third-party sign-in.
Exercise search offline 750 exercises, on the device. Usually a server lookup.
Routines and targets Build, reuse, set targets, drift flagged. Yes, often with community routines too.
Cardio with GPS Built in: walks, runs, hikes, rides. A separate app.
Nutrition and weight Built in: 13,000+ foods, targets, water, trend. A separate app.
Social layer Optional following, per-session sharing, no feed. A core feature, with community content.
Importing your history Not available. Established import and export routes.
Web app None. The phone is the app. Commonly available.
Price Free, no subscription, no ads. Free tier with a paid subscription.
The right-hand column describes the common shape of a cloud-account lifting app rather than any one product's current feature list, which changes faster than a page like this can.

Questions

Is the exercise catalogue big enough?
750 exercises, which covers barbell, dumbbell, machine, cable and bodyweight work. It is not the largest catalogue in the category, and it is on the phone rather than behind a lookup.
Can I log supersets and drop sets?
Sets are logged individually with reps and weight, so the sequence is recorded; there is no dedicated superset grouping.
Does it sync between my phone and tablet?
Between devices on the same account, encrypted the whole way, including across iPhone and Android.
What if I lose my phone?
Your recovery key is the only way back in, and we cannot reset it. That is the direct cost of a server that cannot read your data.
